Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Responses

Post-traumatic stress responses may occur when the mind and body continue responding to an experience that felt threatening, terrifying, overwhelming, or unsafe. The experience may be over, yet reminders, sensations, or moments of uncertainty can still bring the mind and body into a heightened state of alert.

You may find that memories or dreams feel unusually vivid, certain situations are difficult to approach, rest is harder to find, or you feel more guarded or distant from your emotions. These experiences may reflect how deeply your mind and body worked to survive what felt unmanageable at the time and how the impact of that experience may still be carried in the present.

How therapy can help?

Therapy can help you make sense of post-traumatic stress responses or if you've been diagnosed with PTSD, notice what tends to activate them, and develop grounding practices that support stability. When appropriate, therapy may also support gradual processing so that memories, emotions, and body responses feel less overwhelming and more integrated.

How do I know if I need therapy?

Therapy may be helpful if post-traumatic stress responses continue to affect how deeply you can rest, connect, focus, feel safe, or feel present in daily life. You might also seek support if reminders feel difficult to approach, you feel distant from yourself or others, moments of intense fear arise, or past experiences still feel very present in your body or emotions.

My approach

I approach post-traumatic stress responses with steadiness, collaboration, and careful attention to pacing. Our work gives ongoing attention to safety and grounding while making room for understanding and integration in ways that honour your limits, choices, and nervous system.
