Therapy for Social Isolation

Social isolation can involve more than simply spending time alone. It may reflect a tender gap between the connection you want and the connection that feels possible, safe, or available.

At times, earlier experiences, loss, ongoing stress, periods of low mood, or relationships where you had limited room to be yourself can make connection feel less available or more difficult to approach.

It may become a form of protection: distance can sometimes feel more manageable than risking disappointment, judgment, conflict, or emotional exposure. At the same time, another part of you may long for belonging, companionship, ease, or the feeling of being genuinely known. Both the need for protection and the longing for connection can be meaningful parts of the experience.

How therapy can help?

Therapy can help you explore what has made connection feel difficult, risky, tiring, or out of reach.

Together, we can understand the protective role of distance, the uncertainty or self-consciousness that may accompany connection, and the longing for belonging, while supporting ways of relating that feel more authentic and manageable.

How do I know if I need therapy?

Therapy may be helpful if isolation feels painful, persistent, or hard to shift.

You might also seek support if you feel lonely around others, unsure how to reach out, disconnected from community, or uncertain how to build relationships that feel safe.

My approach

I approach social isolation with gentleness and curiosity, attending to both the longing for connection and the protective reasons distance may have been needed. We work toward belonging that feels honest, paced, and supportive.
